The Artful Chiropractor

The art of chiropractic is something to be studied, respected, and refined on the daily. Just as any master sharpens their craft, the artful chiropractor works meticulously on making each adjustment, their best adjustment, and the next always better than the last.

It has been no secret that I have dedicated endless hours in refining my craft to deliver the best chiropractic adjustment I am capable of. While in school I created a group called the Adjusting Ninjas, which is a group purely dedicated to the art of chiropractic. To be a part of Adjusting Ninjas, one must commit to meet twice a week @ 6:05am to train the various aspects required to become an athletic and artful chiropractor with professional level adjusting skills. A typical Ninja session would consist of a 20 minute interval-type workout with integrated functional movements and foundation training, 49 breaths meditation w/ affirmations for the day, an adjusting warm-up structured from the work of MLS and Dr. Arno Burnier, and then we would finish with instruction on technique demonstrated by me or one of the other leaders. The training formula we were able to put together in Adjusting Ninjas WORKS. Students that train with us far exceed their classmates in skill, presence, focus, and most importantly, the ability to always approach the person on the table from a place of love and abundance.

a pic of some of the Ninjas I trained while in school

The reason I created Adjusting Ninjas was as a response to the atrocity of manipulations I uses to witness while in the student clinic. Patients were being practiced on, not adjusted. Upper quarter student interns had not properly trained and unfortunately it was the unbeknownst public and newly enrolled students that had to bare the punishment of their lack of skill... As a 1st quarter student in chiropractic school, I made a vow to myself that I would never be "that intern" (the majority) that continually had to have their pod doctor clean up the adjustments that they were not prepared to deliver. Due to my intensive training, I can proudly say that I was not "that intern" and entered clinic confident in my adjusting technique and that each adjustment performed in the health center honored both chiropractic and the person I was serving on the table.

As many know, the path to mastery is a life long journey that does not stop just because one finishes school. I graduated chiropractic college in September of 2013 and have continued to push the limits on becoming better and better everyday. Although at times it seems as if the demands of managing a business can be a strong deterrent from remaining grounded in the principle that fuels me, I choose to actively participate in activities that bring me back to my purpose, "Connecting the world back to their inner source of abundance via the chiropractic adjustment." And I know that only happens if I progressively get better than what I was yesterday.

For myself and whoever else wants to get on board, I am naming 2014 the year of The Artful Chiropractor (TAC). I will be documenting my process on becoming TAC and the progression of workouts I design to fulfill my needs week by week. This is a work in progress, but that's the beauty of life :)

    Dear Chiropractic,

    From the moment I met you, I knew you were something special. You were beautiful no doubt, and others definitely acknowledged it, but I knew there was something more to you than some superficial pain relief. It was something I couldn’t quite put my finger on. I had to know more and I knew that I could happily  spend my life trying to get closer to you.

    I first caught your essence as a perspective student at Life Chiropractic College West. You completely blindsided me. Others had told me that you were “simple”. They told me that you were strictly used for musculo-skeletal conditions and I should not waste my time trying to get to know you. “Stick to the evidence” they said. And at first, I almost believed them. Then you blessed me with the best gift anyone has ever given me. You shared with me your wisdom, your philosophy. You didn’t know it at the time, but after that first conversation, you connected me back to a part of me that had been dormant and dis-connected for so long.

    Before you came along, I had lost faith in myself and faith in life. I didn’t know my place in the world. I felt as if I had little purpose. You were the first one who actually listened to me. Actually let me express myself. Let me explore my creative side. You taught me that everything I would ever need was already inside. All the answers to life I had been searching for, resided within as my innate intelligence. You gave me my power back by restoring my belief in myself. I will never forget all the hours that we spent talking in to the wee hours of the night.

    You were emotionally shut down for a long time, but I can still remember the first time that you exposed your heart… when you revealed your art. Others had taken advantage of you in the past. They used you for your good looks. And that kills me. I wish I could have protected you… It’s not your fault and I hope you know that. It’s them who missed out. They never got to see your true beauty. They never got to see what a loving individual you were and how much you have to offer this world. Unlike them, I DO see your potential. I promise to stand by your side. I promise to be your companion in mastery. I will never give you anything less than my best. I will honor you with every adjustment I give. From now and forever.

    It still astounds me when you expose more and more of yourself through the quantum field of science. Your love seems limitless. I can never know enough about you and cherish the ability to grow closer to you every day. There is such a beauty in the little details about you. Anatomy, neurology, bio-mechanics…. I could study you for a lifetime.

    You mean the world to me chiropractic. As long as I live, I will keep this relationship and the principle strong. I will fight for you. I would die for you. I love you. Thank you,
    Brett J.

    Shut Up & Love

    If you've ever been in a relationship, maybe you have heard this said before, "I just need you to love me!" And, maybe I was being liberal with the maybe.... You most DEFINITELY have heard this said before ;)

    "But what does that even mean" was the question I often retorted. "I mean, I'm here right? Isn't that enough??" [Insert significant other looking at me like an idiot here]

    So, maybe I was missing something.... I used to think I was displaying my love by the things I did or said. I thought that if I could buy something, say something, or do something, my grand offering of love was complete. Superficial love has value, doesn't it??? Hahahaha.
    C'mon man....
    Now don't get me wrong, I had experienced those "deep feelings" of love (tummy butterflies, fluttering heart, and pure joy) but I never thought that my significant other would notice if those feelings of love were absent.... I mean that's crazy talk right?!?

    Actually, NO, that's not crazy. According to cutting edge research being performed by the Institute of HeartMath, the human heartbeat actually generates a measurable electromagentic field. This electromagnetic field has been scientifically studied and proven to have an effect on surrounding electromagnetic fields of other organic structures/substances. Guess what modulates our heart's electromagnetic field? Feelings of EMOTION. Different emotions make changes not only on our physiology but our electromagnetic field!!
    Hence, your significant other CAN feel your love and/or NOT feel your love. The "I love you's" won't mean a thing if you have "lost that lovely feeling" (shameless Righteous Brothers plug). This love thing is much bigger than what we do, think, or say. Do yourself a favor, and Shut Up and Love.

    With "deep" love,
    The Future Dr. J

    Universal Intelligence

    The Source Chiropractic Weekly Newsletter #3

    While most healthcare delivery systems operate solely on the application of science, the heart of Chiropractic is based on a trinity of Art, Science, and Philosophy. This triune is like a 3-legged chair which requires the integrity and stability of all three legs for the chair to remain standing...

    The competent chiropractor must also have a strong foundation of ALL 3 components. The art of chiropractic is displayed during the delivery of a chiropractic adjustment. There are over 200 techniques and variations of chiropractic adjusting styles and this is why experiences may be very different based on which chiropractor you visit.

    HINT: If you find a chiropractor you like, ask what techniques they use, that way if you ever need to find another chiropractor you will be able to find someone with a similar style.

    The science of chiropractic is constantly evolving to provide objective reproducible measures, such as infrared thermography, spinal x-rays, and surface EMG scans to help determine when there may be interference to the nerve system due to spinal subluxations. Studies and articles proving the efficacy, low-cost, and safety of chiropractic adjustments are being published in journals all over the world at a ever increasing rate. The Science of Chiropractic is finally starting to catch up to the Philosophy...

    What is philosophy? The guiding or underlying principles; the most basic beliefs, concepts, and attitudes of an individual or group.

    In essence, the philosophy of chiropractic explains “WHY” we do what we do. This philosophy is based on 33 principles laid down by the “OG's” of chiropractic.

    The most important of these principles is naturally principle #1 The Major Premise.

    The Major Premise: A Universal Intelligence is in all matter and continually gives to it all it's properties and actions thus maintaining it in existence.

    Whoa! I know. A lot to swallow the first time you read it :)

    This week we will start to break down The Major Premise of Chiropractic by first explaining Universal Intelligence. The Chiropractic Textbook defines Universal Intelligence as “the infinite intelligence that is the SOURCE of everything in the Universe.” Some religions have more commonly named this intelligence God or Allah. However, Chiropractic is obviously not a religion and therefore uses the word Universal Intelligence.

    The important concept to grasp is that there is a higher intelligence that keeps the world as we know it organized. You don't wake up one day, step outside, and then start floating because there is no longer the force of gravity. There are life principles and laws constantly at work, adapting and re-organizing to sustain life and keep things in a state of homeostasis. If you ever need to remember this law of organization, here is a trick from Dr. Sid Williams – pull your keys out of your pocket hold them out and then let them go and see what happens – 10 times out of 10 they will drop to the ground.

    Stay tuned next week to learn about Innate Intelligence - This same power that organizes the world, also exists inside YOU as Innate Intelligence.

    We hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about Chiropractic the Art, Science, and Philosophy. Until next time, stay connected to your inner source of abundance, Dr. J & Dr.M

    Sid E. Willaims 49 Breaths

    One of the most important pieces of being apart of The Source Chiropractic are the educational pieces that elevate your consciousness. Today we want to share with you Dr Sid E William's 49 Breaths Meditation.

    “49 Breaths” is a series of breaths that are followed by affirmations. This form of meditation originated from Dr. Sid E. Williams D.C., the creator of the Dynamic Essentials Meeting , and it is designed to energize the spirit and connect the physical body back to the source within.

    To Begin: Start seated at the edge of your chair, with shoes off and feet connected to the ground. Place your hands gently on your knees palms up and close your eyes. Set your intention for your meditative practice and acknowledge the time you have set aside to give back to yourself. When you are ready, place your palms down and begin the series of breaths. The breaths are done in through the nose and out through the mouth. When breathing in bring your head up and back as if looking at the sky or the ceiling and puff your belly out and with the breath out bringing your head down as if looking at your belly or chin to chest and pull your belly in. The breaths are broken up into 4 series each with affirmations in between. The palms are down for the breaths and palms are up and spirit is open during the affirmations.

    · 7 Breaths -> Affirmations
    · 14 Breaths -> Affirmations
    · 14 Breaths -> Affirmations
    · 14 Breaths -> Affirmations
    · End w/ a deep inhale followed by a big sweeping sigh or “Om”

    Here is a sample pattern of affirmations you can use filling in the blank with anything you want to bring focus to in your life i.e. Love, light, power, strength….

    I am ______
    I do not have to become ______
    I am _____
    ______dwells in me
    Every cell of my body is filled with _______

    I am love
    I do not have to become love
    I am love
    I am peace
    And peace dwells in me
    I am strength
    Every cell of my body is strong
    I do not have to become strong
    I am strong in the right places

    We want to invite you to try to do these breaths every day for the next 2 weeks and see what opens up in your life. Dr Sid recommends doing it 3 times a day ... but we can work up to that.

    Love and Appreciate you. Come Get Connected at The Source.
